The Medicines Information Centre (MIC) is situated within the Division of Clinical Pharmacology, Department of Medicine at the University of Cape Town’s Faculty of Health Sciences. It is the largest and only clinically-based medicine information centre in South Africa and provides information to both public and private sector health care professionals.
Established in 1980, it makes a valuable contribution towards supporting rational prescribing in South Africa. The Medicines Information Centre promotes the safe and effective use of medicines by providing unbiased, evidence-based information to its users.
For the past three years the MIC has operated its national medicines information service with funding from the National Department of Health.
