Recognition for Thandanani's
work in the community
Thandanani Children's Foundation, a non-profit
organisation based in Pietermaritzburg, has achieved
both national and international recognition for
its work in the community. Addressing a Women's
Day celebration in August 2002, the Deputy-General
of Communications, Phumelele Ntombele-Nzimande,
noted the Foundation's achievements and the number
of volunteers actively participating in its development
programme. “In spite of all your experiences
and difficulties, you dedicate your lives to the
communities.

The NSA GALLERY'S TRAINING ARTS PROGRAMME
The NSA Gallery's Training Arts Programme offers
a creative and therapeutic programme for children,
and an intensive skills development programme
for adults. The NSA runs creative therapeutic
arts projects in Durban, at Wylie House Children's
Home and King George V Hospital's children's TB
ward, both of these projects being funded by the
AIDS Foundation South Africa.

national day of action
August 8th 2002 was a National Day of Action
for the Treatment Action Campaign (TAC), and the
Durban University branch held two events to mark
the occasion and raise awareness on campus about
HIV/AIDS.

community radio forum (NCRF) AIDS network
For a long time there has been talk about the
importance of networking between and among community
radio stations in South Africa. However, talking
is not enough if there is no action or implementation.
The NCRF AIDS Network seeks to ensure that community
radio producers act by sharing and exchanging
programming on HIV/AIDS issues.

A Student Working Group, consisting of volunteers
co-ordinated by the Campus HIV/AIDS Support Unit
team, developed and produced “Condom Gift
Packs” to distribute to fellow-students
and their partners at various Residence annual
social functions.
